Each of the distinctively patterned forged and folded steel blades is differentially hardened and complemented by a handsome green Tsuka-ito (handle wrap) over black Same (ray skin) and deeply-lacquered green or black Saya (scabbard). The blackened iron tsuba (guard) and fuchi/kashira (handle furniture) depict, in typical Hanwei detail, a tree snake lying in wait in a bamboo thicket. Hanwei is producing 140 Katana and 20 Wakizashi with the Green Saya(PC1658G) below. A further 160 Katana and 30 Wakizashi will feature a black saya(PC1658).

| Hand-and-a-Half Sword (SH2034) |

Replicated from a sword thought to be that of Albrecht II of Austria, the Hand-and-a-Half Sword (SH2034) represents the pinnacle of beauty and balance in medieval swords. Classically simple in design with a flattened diamond-section blade and cruciform hilt, the original dates from the early part of the 15th century. The Lion Rampant emblem of the Habsburg dynasty is engraved in the pommel, while the Passau Running Wolf guild mark and a marigold maker`s mark appear on the blade fuller. Both the grip and the scabbard are leather covered over a cord wrap.

| Hanwei Shaolin Small Jie Dao (SH2441) |

The Jie Dao, which may vary greatly in size, is traditionally used by Shaolin monks not as a weapon (which is forbidden) but for domestic purposes, including shaving. When traveling on foot, the Jie Dao may be used to clear a path in the forest or to gather firewood. The “Jie” in Jie Dao means “abstain”, and Jie Dao translates as “the sword of abstention from killing”. This explains the deliberate lack of a sharp point and ascribes spiritual as well as functional value. The best known legend involving the Jie Dao tells of Huike, the successor to Bhodidharma, who cut off his left arm with a Jie Dao in order to demonstrate his sincerity to Dharma.

Long extolled as the pinnacle of rapier design, the "Spanish" or "Cup-Hilt" rapier undoubtedly combined style and function very effectively in 17th century Europe. The very best of these weapons featured beautifully pierced cups and pommels and CAS Hanwei has replicated these to perfection and combined them with an elegantly tapered high-carbon steel blade in our "Taza" rapier (the name comes from the French, who called this style "a la Taza"). A leather-covered scabbard is included.
The matching Main Gauche again features a pierced guard and pommel in the same design as the rapier, with a fileworked blade in the Spanish style. A leather scabbard and belt frog are included.

The Agincourt, an English-style single-hand sword, commemorates one of the memorable battles of the Hundred Year's War between England and France. Iberia Swords are crafted in much the same way as swords were made centuries ago, except that the blades are now forged from high-carbon spring steel, a resource unavailable off-the-shelf to the smiths of the old. The blade finish is far from being polished, again more closely replicating what the medieval swordsmith was able to achieve. Except as noted, grips are leather-covered hardwood. Fittings are either steel or solid brass. Except, where shown all of these swords have scabbards of leather-covered fiberglass with steel lockets and chapes and removable suspension rings. These swords will appeal to the re-enactor who wants a sword with the same appearance as the originals.

Our Back Scabbards OL1038 (Brown) and OL1038B (Black) are constructed in heavy leather to allow a sword to be drawn with the scabbard in place. The built-in versatility of the scabbard allows adjustment for blade lengths up to 41", at the same time providing for shorter swords by allowing their belt scabbards to be mounted to the back scabbard. Sufficient fitting adjustment is provided to accommodate chest sizes up to 48".

Our Bamboo Mat Wakizashi features a chu-kissaki blade of Hanwei's own high-alloy HWS-2S steel, which combines impressive performance with a striking O-choji hamon. This steel is made in Hanwei's new factory, with high-tech equipment, producing a very pure, advanced-metallurgy blade with excellent edge-holding capability and resilience.
The fittings feature a bamboo-themed black iron tsuba, textured in a bamboo mat design with a jointed bamboo rim and highlighted with gold-tipped bamboo leaves. The fuchi/kashira follow the same theme and the golden menuki feature a pair of sparrows. The saya is finished in high-gloss lacquer with horn fittings.
