The Hanwei Orchid Katana, designed by Paul Chen, is a Japanese sword that pairs a fast, well-balanced blade with an elaborately finished koshirae. Forged and folded by hand from K120C steel, the blade undergoes differential heat treatment, producing a clearly visible hamon and distinct hada layering typical of traditionally built katana. The blade ends in a medium-length kissaki.
The tsuka (handle) is wrapped in genuine same (ray skin) beneath ito and sageo cord woven from premium Japanese cotton. The blackened iron tsuba carries orchid and butterfly motifs inlaid in silver, brass and copper. The saya (scabbard) is finished in deep blue lacquer with koiguchi and kurikata crafted from buffalo horn. The fuchi, kashira and kojiri fittings are made of bronzed iron accented with silver and gold detailing, while the habaki is a one-piece brass construction.
