The Practical Plus XL Light Katana provides a very economical cutting sword as dependable as the Practical XL Light Katana (SH6000LPF), but using more traditional fittings and construction methods. The blade is forged and differentially tempered (HRC60 edge, HRC40 back) and the hamon is prominent. The Practical Plus features genuine Same (Rayskin) on the Tsuka, with a tightly-woven cotton wrap (Tsuka-Ito). The long tang is double-pegged for security. The fittings of the Practical Plus Elite are decorated in a Japanese Dogwood motif with dragon menuki, and the handsome Tsuba is of an iron ''sunburst'' design with a brass habaki.

| Exactly as described
- very nice balance! a superbly maneuverable blade,
- it has good quality materials and good craftsmanship where it counts
and, yes
- the blade is visibly mono tempered
- no fancy polishing
- the hamon is sinusoidal, acid "enhanced"
- the outside of the saya is plastic
Well, you get what you pay for.
If you have high demand cosmetic requirements for display, this will not be good for you. This will not be good for hatches slashing either, it is sharp and hard, but it will not lead you through a cut with its shear inertia, it will not “glide” on its side - yes, it has a big bo hi with all it’s drawbacks and all it’s advantages!
BUT if you need a very good quality, controllable, fast, practical, live blade - this is very much it!
Longer than the standard, with a full mass (1.2kg) but still very dynamic handling.
- it has a strong base, very well tapered towards the kissaki.
(- and a nice sound by the deep bo hi – when well allingned:)
